Cancer Treatment for Quality Life

                Console Room of PET/CT

The aim of cancer treatment is to cure the patients and save lives. In cases where complete cure is not possible the treatment aims to control the disease and add life to years. There are three main types of cancer treatment - Medical Oncology, Surgical Oncology and Radiation Oncology. The treatment can be planned as a single treatment or a combination of treatments depending upon individual patients requirements.

Medical Oncology: deals with all aspects of cancer from prevention, early diagnosis, treatment planning to support and palliative care. Treatment of cancer using drugs is called chemotherapy. Chemotherapy slows and kills the growth of cancer cells and helps to prevent them from spreading to other parts of the body. It is combined with radiation therapy as primary treatment to shrink the tumor before the surgery. It may also be usedafter surgery and to treat cancer that has spread to other organs. The services provided at Asian Cancer Centre include:

  • Cancer consultation and chemotherapy planning
  • Day care chemotherapy unit
  • Bone Marrow aspiration and Biopsy
  • Bone Marrow Transplant
  • Hormonal Therapy planning and Administration

  •                   Trilogy with RapidArc
Trilogy® - IGRT & IMRT Accelerator (Varian) is a revolutionary breakthrough in cancer treatment setting new benchmarks for speed, precision and patient comfort. It delivers powerful tumor-destroying radiation with remarkable precision. Varian RapidArcTM Radiotherapy technology on a Trilogy® system combines the use of both Intensity-Modulated Radiotherapy(IMRT) and Image-Guided Radiotherapy(IGRT) delivery techniques to deliver the treatment with speed and with more precision than conventional or helical IMRT resulting in fewer side effects.

RAPID Arc Technology is applied in the treatment of head & neck cancer, prostate cancer, intra abdominal malignancies - gastric cancer, cancer cervix, lung cancer, brain tumor and verification by cone beam CT scan.

  •                    Trilogy with RapidArc
PET based Radiotherapy: Patients will have PET based radiotherapy planning by 4D computer systems in line with international standards leading to minimum side effects.
  • HDR Brachytherapy: High Dose Rate (HDR) Brachytherapy is a technique that uses a relatively intense source of radiation made of iridium 192 to deliver a therapeutic dose of radiation through temporarily placed needles, catheter or applicators on OPD basis.

AIMS has deployed GammaMediplus IX which introduces a new level of digital technology enhancing the Brachytherapy experience. GammaMedplus IX is a safe, precise, flexible and a complete treatment solution, being used to treat cancers of breast, prostate, cervix, esophagus, head and neck and soft tissue sarcomas.
