Kidney is an important organ to maintain correct composition of human body.Disease of kidney has protean manifestation and includes various disorder such as

Proper Medical support to the kidney is provided, so that kidney is prevented from failing.

In patient who comes in advanced stage of kidney disease the department is fully equipped to provide adequate renal replacement therapy. If Kidney function is supported properly  then kidney patient can afford to have a normal life 
The department of nephrology specializes in advanced medical management of all the diseases of the kidney and in critically ill patient various forms of specialized dialysis modalities are also available.

Preventive Care
Kidney protection is our mission. Every effort is made to detect the presence of kidney diseases at the earliest so that timely intervention is executed. Our Preventive health check up programme incorporates renal risk assessment and Department of Medicine works hard over a system of timely detection, referral and management of such cases.

On the occasion of World Kidney Day ( 11th March 2010) Asian Institute of Medical Sciences, Faridabad continued its community health outreach programme by organizing its first major health event, a free Kidney Check-up camp and an awareness & preventive education programme to educate the public about the increasing number of people affected by Chronic kidney disease, symptoms, risk factors & preventive measures. Around 200 people availed of the benefits of the Kidney Check-up camp.
     
Treating Kidney Diseases
The department is equipped to treat all types of renal ailments such as all types of Kidney (Renal) failures, all types dialysis, medical management of Kidney Transplant patients, treatment of Renal hypertension (High blood pressure due to kidney diseases), various types of Glomerular diseases including vasculitis, connective tissue disorder, Diabetic nephropathy, Nephrotic syndrome, Nephritic syndrome, Fluid, electrolyte and acid-base imbalance.

Acute Kidney Injury- Department of Nephrology in association with critical care team provides complete solution to patients with acute kidney injury. With Fresinius CRRT and dialysis machines, bedside haemodialysis facility is available in ICU. For sick patients of renal failure, with or without multi organ failure, various advanced modalities of continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) are available. such as-

• CVVHF
• CVVHD
• CVVHDF
• SCUF

For less sick patients, The newer concepts of hybrid dialysis- SLED/EDD & PIRRT (prolonged intermittent renal replacement therapy)  are also being incorporated in practice
Plasmaphresis:

This is a procedure to remove unwanted plasma from the body. This is of immense benefit in conditions like-Guillain-Barre syndrome,Nephritic Syndrome, acute exacerbations of vasculitis, Idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP), HELLP syndrome. Both, Drum based technology and filter based technology is available in our hospital.

Peritoneal Dialysis
All forms of peritoneal dialysis such as acute intermittent PD, CAPD (continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis) automated PD (APD), and across various age groups ranging from neonate to geriatric population is available. Our CAPD programme is backed by dedicated procedure room, nursing and dietician support.

• Facility for intermitted acute peritoneal dialysis. Especially for younger patients
• Facility for automated peritoneal dialysis (APD).
• Facility for continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD).

Maintenance Haemo Dialysis
Maintenance haemodialysis is available for the patients of CRF (Chronic renal failure). It has  state-of-art Fresinius dialysis machines with volumetric ultra filtration control and facility of bicarbonate dialysis. We try to achieve international standards for the same. RO water for dialysis meets the internationally prescribed AAMI standards and CDC recommendations are followed for infection control. Emphasis is laid on making patients fit for full rehabilitation with excellent quality of life.

Efforts have been made to make the dialysis experience as pleasant as possible. The dialysis staff is friendly, welcoming, and trained in service excellence. Patients are prevented from pain of billing and insurance

due to personalized care by the nursing staff. The unit is spacious with a pleasant ambience. Each and every bed is equipped with a large personalized LCD television with earphones. There is provision of hospital supplied dietician supervised tailor made food during the procedure. Thanks to the large space, after the cannulation, regulated entry of guests are allowed to support patients. LAN facility gives provision of using laptops and computers and staff is more than happy in adjusting the dialysis schedule as per the patient job requirement. There is provision of short and long duration nocturnal dialysis also. All this helps in complete rehabilitations of patients.The center organizes regular, activity for the benefit of dialysis patients. There is provision of private rooms also so that patients experience a near home like ambience.

On one hand care is taken to make the environment as patient friendly as possible and on the other hand extreme care is taken to make the unit medically safe especially keeping in view sick patients who are not very compliant. Each dialysis bed is like ICU bed with electronically operated posture controlled beds and chairs. There is provision of oxygen and vacuum suction on each station. There are eight cardiac monitors for intensive monitoring. Defibrillator and crash card is there for any resuscitation needs. Infection control is given utmost importance and the centre follows AAMI and CDC guidelines including universal precautions. Adequate dialysis, Anemia control, adequate nutrition any medical problem arte addressed by visit of doctor.

Nocturnal Dialysis: This is a dialysis given during night hours for a prolonged duration on more frequent basis. This helps in achieving near normal physiological state & well being. Nocturnal dialysis will also help poor patient who want to get dialyzed during night so that they can save the day time for day to day activities. Facility of food, toilet, medical monitoring, good ambience and ambulance facility to help combat odd hours, has made this kind of modality, which is very popular in west , feasibly for our patients.

Isolation Dialysis: For patients who are positive for hepatitis B, as per CDC recommendation, we provide isolation dialysis. This helps in avoiding spread of blood borne infection during dialysis.

                        Private Dialysis

Private Dialysis : For CRF patient who prefer personalized care in a home like environment, the facility of private dialysis in isolated deluxe room is available. A home like ambience with regulated entry of family members gives privacy and comfort to make the procedure pleasant.

Our Nephrologist
The Nephrology Department led by Dr Jitendra Kumar (MD, DNB, DM www/drjitendrakumar.in). Dr Jitendra Kumar is well known name in kidney care in this area. For several years he has provided quality management to kidney patients. Many people from in and around Faridabad and adjoining state such as UP, Delhi Bihar and MP have availed his services. Currently he is Senior Consultant and heads the unit. He is an alumnus of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences Lucknow. He is actively involved in medical research and has several national and international publications and presentations to his credit.

Before joining us, he was head of nephrology at Nagarjuna Hospital Vijayawada AP and later at Fortis Escorts Hospital Faridabad India. His area of interest is retardation of progression of CKD and various modes of dialysis. He has supervised several thousand dialysis sessions and introduced to the people of Faridabad, various specialized renal procedures such as, CAPD, Plasmaphresis, and Charcoal hemoperfusion, various modes of CRRT, SLED and nocturnal dialysis

Services- The department of nephrology provides outpatient, inpatient, emergency and round the clock dialysis services. Department is equipped to manage following types of patients-

1. All types of Kidney (Renal) failure such as Acute Kidney Injury (AKI/ARF), chronic kidney Disease (CKD) rapidly progressive renal failure (RPRF) and end stage renal disease (ESRD)

4. Renal hypertension (High blood pressure due to kidney diseases)
5. Various types of Glomerulonephritis
6. Diabetic nephropathy (Diabetes related kidney diseases)
7. Nephrotic syndrome- A state of protein leakage in urine leading to swelling of body
8. Nephritic Syndrome- Protein and blood in urine with high blood pressure and swelling
9. Fluid, electrolyte and acid-base imbalance.
10. Plasmaphresis, Charcoal Hemoperfusion
11. Various nephrological procedures such as vascular access creation by femoral, sub-clavian and jugular catheterizatin, A-V shunt, AV fistula, vascular graft, CAPD catheter insertion, kidney biopsy etc. are available for kidney patients.
